Background

WHY USE EIFS?

Using exterior insulation finish systems (EIFS) has the following benefits:

  • Enhanced waterproofing and drainage capabilities when compared to conventional stucco

  • Less likely to crack

  • Energy efficient

  • Greater design versatility with a vast range of colours, textures, finishes, shapes, curves, and details are possible

THE EIFS PROCESS

​The EIFS process generally involves the following:

  • Insulation board (often polystyrene foam) secured to exterior wall (sheathing) surface with an adhesive or mechanical attachment

  • A water-resistant base coat is applied over the insulation

  • A base coat is reinforced with fibreglass mesh for added strength

  • A durable finish coat, often with an acrylic copolymer, is added that is both colourfast and crack resistant
